Ferrari has announced a new version of the F50 sports car, the new 3.5-liter V6 engine that will be the basis of the upcoming Ferrari F50.
The engine will be powered by the same 6.2-liter turbocharged V6 as the 3.0-liter 4-cylinder F50 model that debuted in 2017.
It’s the first new V6 Ferrari has offered since its F40 sports car debuted in 2012.
“With the new engine, the F30 and F40 will be able to compete with the Ferrari 488 GTB, and this will also improve the handling of the sports car,” said Ferrari marketing chief Fabrizio Bignetti.
The 3.2 litre turbocharged engine will provide an average of 952 hp and 750 Nm of torque.
That’s up from the 753 hp and 710 Nm in the 3-liter engine of the 3F50.
However, the engine’s power delivery will be a bit more linear, Bignetti said.
“For example, the 6.0 litre engine will deliver 880 hp and 700 Nm more torque than the 5.7 litre and 4.0 liter engines,” he said.
Ferrari will have a new 3D engine to be used on the upcoming F50, which will be capable of delivering a maximum of 400 horsepower and 450 Nm torque.
Bigneti said the new V-12 will also be available as an option.
“The new 3-litre V-6 engine will also have a longer reach and a higher output to increase the engine power to the maximum of the Ferrari F40 and the Ferrari 3.4 liter,” Bignini said.
The new engine is expected to arrive in late 2019 or early 2020.
It is expected that the engine will not be available for production until the early 2020s.
“We are currently developing a new powertrain which will increase the power of the engines and improve their performance and torque characteristics,” Bredeti continued.
Ferrari has been under increasing pressure to make changes to the F-series lineup.
The company has been looking at various options, including a return to the 3 series, but it’s not clear when the next F-model will arrive.
